Prince: The Morning Papers

Year: 1992, Prince released the “Love Symbol” album, one collection of many wonderful tracks with different flavas, with “Sexy MF” and “My name is Prince” being  among the more funky-influenced songs, “Love 2 the 9’s” being the most flamboyant and “The Morning Papers” one of those songs that have special qualities of being soulful, relaxed, and have great melody lines. Prince played the piano all thru’ the verses and the guitar just do some fills (a la Hendrix)  but then comes that amazing, simple, bluesy solo, that really brings the song to another level. There’s some BB King influence here, in the phrasing, so the feeling is really very Blues and Soul, an amazing guitar tone and really cool chord changes (a little bit “Motown” style, in my opinion, also resembling the slow ballads by the Commodores). Prince adds a second, more Hendrix-like solo that brings to the end of the song, with a crescendo of emotions, string bendings and that personal touch and style (precise tuning, precise bendings, smooth vibrato)
